pochahontas references aside (although we've been watching a LOT of disney movies lately), last week i kept finding myself looking at gorgeous pieces of art. really BRIGHT, gorgeous pieces of art.
i'm covering the thai artists who are here for an exchange for the mustang daily and one of the art professors at cal poly was kind enough to show me this piece that one of the artists painted last year. it's hanging in someone's office so if the art professor wouldn't have shown it to me, i would've never seen it. of course i loved it because of the elephants (one's in the middle and another's in the upper left-hand corner).
there were also some tibetan monks that were visiting our school. they set up a little art demonstration in the uu. they used this sand:
the monks were also selling these pretty rings. i almost bought one but decided against it since christmas is coming and i need to save my dollars to spend them on people besides myself. since i've been a grinch all quarter, i need to be extra nice this thanksgiving and christmas. which won't be hard because i love the holidays.
to create this artwork:
pretty amazing. the monks had this metal, funnel-like tool in one hand and a metal stick in the other and rubbed them together to get the sand to funnel out in a thin line. their sand art is so intricate and gorgeous and again- COLORFUL. we don't see stuff this colorful in the united states pretty much ever.

be happy. be colorful.
